Local athletes shine at Trinity’s Under the Lights meet

As the last meet of the season, Trinity High School’s Under the Lights invitational is meant to give athletes a chance at victory and last minute qualifying times for the postseason.

Some athletes do more.

Senior Madison Depner wasn’t satisfied with setting a new pole vault record Thursday against Greencastle. She came in Monday determined to do better and came away with it at 11-6 as a new school and stadium record and a qualifier for nationals.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Depner said. “It was a little slow at first, I didn’t jump 11 at COBO field until Thursday when I got 11-5. It’s just an amazing feeling picking up at the end of the season. It feels awesome to qualify for nationals after falling just short last year.”
