Colin Defant is a pole vaulter for the Land O’ Lakes High track team. And recently he set the academic bar pretty high for his fellow classmates.
The rising senior is one of two LOLHS studentswho achieved a perfect score on the ACT exam, something only about one-tenth of one percent of test-takers nationwide attain.
“I was excited to find that I had scored so well, but I was mainly excited to see how proud my parents were,” Defant said.
Defant said he didn’t study at all for the college admisions exam, which includes tests on English, mathematics, science and reading. Each test is scored on a scale of 1-36 and a student’s composite score is the average of the four test scores.
Pole vaulting is one of his favorite extracurricular activities, and he loves math.
“I also enjoy physics,” he said.
The International Baccalaureate student said he hopes to attend MIT after graduation.
“I want to become a professor of mathematics,” Defant said.
