Lorentsen Wins Pole Vault at HPU Challenge

Michael Lorentsen turned in the fourth-best performance of his career and in Davidson history in the pole vault, winning the event to lead the Davidson men’s track and field team in the High Point Challenge at the JDL Fast Track Thursday.

Lorentsen cleared 14 feet, 6 ¼ inches (4.43m) and now owns the top five marks all-time for the Wildcats.

The 4x400m relay team of #Charles Rappé#, Ben Corson, Wesley Laytham and Nate Faubion earned the ‘Cats only other podium finish of the day, placing second in 3 minutes, 28.71 seconds.

Stewart Dalton, Rappé, and Whitner Chase were among Davidson’s top performers in the meet. Dalton placed fourth in the long jump with a school top-10 performance of 21-6 (6.55m) to place fourth, and also competed in the 60-meter dash (7.29 seconds). Rappé earned a place on the top-10 performers list in the 60-meter hurdles with a fifth-place finish in 8.91 seconds. Chase also earned a place on a top-10 performers list, doing so in the 3000-meter run by placing eighth in 8:29.23.

The Wildcats will return to Winston-Salem next weekend for the UCS Invitational Feb. 14-15 as a final tune up before the 2014 SoCon Indoor Championships.
