INDIANAPOLIS – Slippery Rock University men’s track and field standouts Hans Lubich and Jordan Pacheco have been accepted to compete in the 2014 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships March 14-15 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Lubich, a senior from Jefferson, Pa., was selected to compete in the seven-event heptathlon that will begin Friday, March 14 at 9 a.m. The first four events, the 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put and high jump, will take place Friday. The final three events, the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter run, will take place Saturday.
Lubich won the heptathlon at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship meet last weekend with a personal best and NCAA provisional score of 4,976 points.
He will be competing in his first national championship meet and is the 12th seed in the event. A total of only 14 athletes were selected to compete in the heptathlon.
Pacheco, a freshman from Rockaway, N.J., will be making his national championship debut in his first collegiate season after qualifying in the pole vault.
Pacheco won the event at the PSAC meet last week and owns a season-best clearance of 4.90 meters, which ranks him 13th among all athletes accepted into the national meet. A total of 17 vaulters will compete next weekend.
The pole vault is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, March 14.
