Mahnke sets Pole Vault school record during Raiders busy week

The Logan View Raiders boys and girls track teams competed at Tekamah-Herman Tuesday, in an 11-team field and at Schuyler on Thursday in an eight-team field. The boys finished in fourth and seventh places, and the girls finished sixth and seventh place,s respectively.

At Tekamah, there were three event champions for the Raiders on the boys’ side. The 4×800 meter relay members included Grant Uehling, Jordan Polk, Ryan Langemeier, and James Hernandez.  Gage Hoegermeyer also finished as champion in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs.

The lone second place finisher for the Raiders was Jordan Polk in the 800 meter run. Polk also placed 5th in the High Jump. Other placers for the Raiders were Tyler Ruwe (6th, high jump), Drake Betancur (6th, 3200 meter run), Max Christensen (5th, 200 meter dash), Grant Uehling (3rd, 800 meter run), Zach Conner (6th, 300 Int. hurdles), Ryan Langemeier (3rd, 1600 meter run) and the 1600 meter relay (4th, Polk, Hernandez, Christensen and Uehling).

On the girls side at Tekamah, there were four individual placers for the Lady Raiders and two relay teams. There were two runners-up honors for the girls, Grayce McCormick in the 3200 meter run and Gaby Hoegermeyer in the 1600 meter run.  Other medal winners for the Lady Raiders were Amber VonSeggern (3rd, high jump, 4th, 800 meter run), Emily Bensinger (5th, shot put and discus), 3200 meter relay (5th, Natalia Ostos, Jasmine DeLuna, Pam Mazon, Kaitlyn Mahnke), 1600 meter relay (6th, A. VonSeggern, DeLuna, McCormick, and Hoegermeyer).

On Thursday at Schuyler, the Raiders traveled with considerably smaller squads.  Coach Joe Foust commented, “Due to State meet limitations, we usually treat this meet a little differently.  It is a competitive meet with some pretty quality teams.  We usually give the kids just a couple events to focus on.  I like the way the kids handled their events at the Schuyler meet.”  Gage Hoegermeyer was crowned meet champion in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:48.60.  Austin Kremke (Tied for 2nd, high jump; 6th, pole vault), Polk (5th, 800 meter run), 4×800 relay (runner up, Uehling, Hoegermeyer, Langemeier, Johathan Horvatich).

A major highlight for the Lady Raiders came at Schuyler when Kaitlyn Mahnke broke the school record in the pole vault when she cleared 8’6” on her first attempt. “She had a solid day of vaulting, and was very focused. She works very hard at practices and has a great attitude.  We knew it was a matter of time for her, and she is capable of even more,” Foust commented. Mahnke’s vault was good enough to place her fourth overall. Other medal winners were A. VonSeggern (5th, high jump, 800 meter run), Bensinger (5th, discus), Hoegermeyer (3rd, 1600 meter run), McCormick (5th, 3200 meter run).

Coach Foust commented, “We are two-thirds of the way through the season.  It has gone fast.  This was a heavy week for us.  We will look to recover a bit as we head into the Conference meet.  I like the kids’ attitudes as we head down the stretch.”
