McGovern Represents Ireland at European Team Championships

DUBLIN, Ireland – The European Athletics Team Championships 1st League were held this weekend at Dublin’s Morton Stadium, and recent Manhattan College graduate Brian McGovern (Yonkers, N.Y.) represented the host Irish in the pole vault.  McGovern placed fourth overall with a clearance of 5.15 meters (16 feet, 10¾ inches).

This marked the second time that McGovern competed for Ireland at the European Team Championships.  He was also on the squad for the 2011 edition in Izmir, Turkey.

The European Team Championships are divided into four different divisions, which compete at four different sites on the same weekend.  As a team, Ireland collected 242 points to finish seventh out of 12 teams, its best-ever showing at the meet.  The Czech Republic, Sweden and the Netherlands secured the top three places to earn promotion to the Super League, the highest level of the competition, for 2014.
