We first told you about this in late June and now the installation has begun. If you thought that things at The Armory were a little fast last year, just wait for the new season.
Already one of the fastest and busiest tracks in the world, the famous oval — and the entire surface of the third floor at The Armory — has featured Mondo surfaces for nearly 20 years.
“Without Mondo we wouldn’t be where we are,” said Norbert Sander, president of the Armory Foundation. “Mondo has played a very important role as a professional, understanding company in this achievement. We look forward to working with them again.”
Athletes celebrate the opportunity to run on new Mondo surfaces. Running with improved consistency yields greater confidence and faster times. And Mondo has the sport’s best track record with more than 230 world records established on their surfaces, including five at the 2008 Olympics and three at the London Games.
“The Armory track will be even faster with our new Mondo surface,” said Millrose Games Director Ray Flynn. “I am very excited about the 107th Millrose Games and the prospect of bettering the more than 60 new records we achieved this year!”
