Merritt Island graduate Mike Vani won the Sun Belt Conference championship in the pole vault on Friday with a height of 16 feet, 8¼ inches.

Vani, now a senior at Louisiana-Lafayette, has already qualified for the NCAA’s regional round. While at Merritt Island, he won a state championship and established the FHSAA meet record of 16-8.

Eau Gallie summer camp

The Commodores will offer three seperate power baseball camps June 9 through 11, 16 through 18 and 23 through 25, each from 9 a.m. until noon.

Holy Trinity sports physicals

Holy Trinity will offer free sports physicals on June 20 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Viera Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center.

Melbourne hosts basketball camp

Coach Michael Soliven and his staff will host a basketball camp at Melbourne High during two weeks in June for boys and girls from grade 2 through those entering the ninth grade.

The camps will begin on June 2 and June 23, both Mondays, and run through Thursday. Cost is $110 per camper for a full day or $65 for a half day and includes a T-shirt.

Football, baseball camps at MCC

Boys entering fourth through eighth grade are eligible for the Melbourne Central Catholic football camp, June 4 through 6 beginning at 7 p.m. at the school’s stadium. It is a skill-based, non-contact camp.

M.I. alumni football game

Merritt Island football alumni are invited to play in an alumni flag football game on Friday, following the varsity team’s black and gold game.

The alumni game, sponsored by the Merritt Island Quarterback Club, will cost $25 to play, and a T-shirt will be included. Those interested should e-mail with name, graduation year and shirt size.
