PHILADELPHIA and LA JOLLA, Calif. and OXFORD, Ohio – For the second straight week the No. 24 Kentucky women’s track & field team’s Michelle Canterna raised the bar, literally, when it comes to the UK pole vault record.
A week ago Canterna cleared 3.87 meters / 12 feet 8.25 inches at Kentucky’s first home meet since 1996, and she surpassed that height while competing at the Miami Redhawk Invitational on Saturday.
Canterna cleared as high as 3.96 meters / 12’11.75” giving her the all-conditions UK record and the event title. Her mark last week set a then-the school outdoor record.
“Michelle’s mark is another big step for our program as we continue to build UK track and field,” head coach Edrick Floreal said.

Wildcat competitors also posted multiple impressive performances at the 119th Penn Relay Carnival in front of 48,871 fans at historic Franklin Field.
“The Penn Relays is a big time competition in front of big time crowds,” Floreal said. “We handled the pressure of the crowds and the competitive field well. I am very proud of our team.”
