MONACO — Lafayette’s Armand “Mondo” Duplantis finished second in the pole vault in Friday’s Monaco stop on the IAAF Diamond League track and field tour.
Duplantis, who earlier this season was a winner in the Prefontaine Classic, had a best clearance of 5.92 meters, 19 feet, 5 inches.
That was topped only by Poland’s Piotr Lisek, who cleared a personal best 6.02 — 19-9 — for the best in the world this season and a Monaco meet record.
Finishing third was Brazil’s Thiago Braz, 5.92 like Duplantis, while Pawel Wojciechowski was fourth at 5.87, 19-3.
Sam Kendricks of the United States and Renaud Lavillenie of France both topped out at 5.82, 19-1, to tie for fifth place.
As usual, Duplantis, who has dual citizenship with the USA and Sweden, represented Sweden.
