After finishing as silver medalist at the recent Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Greenville’s Sandi Morris said that perhaps it was a good thing she didn’t gold, as it would “keep my fire burning through 2020.”
Morris sufficiently stoked that fire against Friday, breaking her own American outdoor record in the pole vault in Brussels, Belgium, by clearing 5.0 meters (16 ft., 5 in.), becoming just the second woman ever to clear 5 meters outdoors.
Morris set the new standard en route to winning the final Diamond League Track & Field Meeting of the season. Her 5-meter clearance also ranks as the best in the world this year.
