Neumann Wins Pole Vault In Mariners’ Outdoor Season-Opener At Osprey Open

GALLOWAY, N.J. (April 4, 2015) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s track & field team opened the outdoor season on Saturday at the Osprey Open, hosted by Richard Stockton College. The Mariners had four top-10 finishes at the event, including a win by freshmanBlase Neumann (Spokane, Wash.) in the pole vault.

Neumann cleared 4.20 meters to claim gold in the event and start off the outdoor season strong. Junior Kenneth Pressey (Yorktown, Va.) had a strong performance in the high jump, finishing in second place after he cleared 1.83 meters.

In the men’s 1500 meter run sophomore Conor McWeeney (Lake Oswego, Ore.) came in seventh place with a time of 4:27.41 and classmate Daniel Wolfer (Hebron, Ky.) placed eighth in the 5000 meter run in 17:27.88 to round out the Mariners’ top-10 finishes.

Junior Kevin McHale (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) led the Merchant Marine throwers with a 14th-place showing by hurling the shot put 10.00 meters.

Up next, the Mariners will host the Five-Way Meet on Sunday, April 12. They will welcome in Bard, Farmingdale State, Mount St. Mary and St. Joseph’s-Long Island at Brooks Stadium.
