Another day, brought more national bests for Louisiana athletes at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Track and Field Classic at Tad Gormely Stadium.
Jewel Sumner’s Devin King, a Field MVP, cleared 17-2 on his second attempt in the pole vault for a meet record, and a national best this season. Just two weeks ago, he cleared 17-1 at the Louisiana State Indoor Championships.
“After I hit the mat is when it really started to set in,” King said. “On the way down, I wasn’t thinking about anything. Going in, I didn’t feel all that good. Throughout the meet, though, my confidence started to build.”
King, one of three nationally ranked competitors in the event, was followed by Dylan Duvio of John Curtis, a Standford signee, who cleared 16-0 and Cameron Robichaux of St. Paul’s, who tied a school record and personal best of 15-6.
