NFA’s Martin living in high places

NORWICH — Paige Martin is living in high places these days.
The NFA 5-foot-9 junior is the top-ranked pole vaulter in New England. Competing in the Snowflake Invitational meet Tuesday at Wesleyan University, Martin vaulted 11-feet-7, hitting the qualifying standard for the national championships in March.

Martin’s goal for the indoor season, which is not yet halfway finished, was reaching the national standard.

“Now that I’ve got it, it’s a weight off me,” Martin said. “My next goal is setting the school record.”

Allison Sullivan set the record of 12-0 1/2 in 2011. Martin, who hit 11-feet as a sophomore last year to win the ECC meet and place third in the State Open, cleared the bar on a record attempt Tuesday only to see her pole knock it over.
