NICEVILLE — Two state champions. Five state qualifiers. A sweep of the District 2-3A track meet.

The results speak to Niceville’s utter dominance in the pole vault pits this past season, and the man behind that dominance, Caleb Phillips, is equally remarkable.

Only 20 years old, Phillips has already put in two years on the Niceville Track & Field coaching staff, and he’s already racked up three state championship medals.

Maddy Kish, a senior vaulter bound for Mississipppi State, won two in a row, becoming the first female track athlete in Niceville history to win an individual state championship. Kobe Babin, a junior, claimed his gold medal in a nail-biter this past May. The two each earned one of the Daily News’ Track Athlete of Year awards.

It seemed only right that Phillips take home the Daily News’ Track & Field Coach of the Year award.
