Southern Regional senior Chelsea Vaughan won the pole vault, posting a jump of 12-0 to best sophomore Marlena Sabatino of Hillsborough and Voorhees senior Erin Knabe, who both had jumps of 11-6 at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions on Monday at Lombardi Field in Old Bridge.
Sabatino’s Hillsborough teammate, senior Lindsay Carbone, finished fourth with a jump of 11-6.
Vaughan also won the indoor state title in the pole vault earlier this year.
Wind was a factor for the competitors. Both Sabatino and Vaughan entered the meet with personal records of 12-6. If either had replicated those jumps, it would have matched the meet record, which was set by Hanover Park’s Nicole Pompei in 2008 and tied by Clifton’s Emily Urciuoli and Cranford’s Kelly Burke in 2009 and 2010, respectively.
