North Buncombe’s Alamo-Worley raising the bar in a quest for state gold

ASHEVILLE – Maria Alamo-Worley’s experience at the Buncombe County track and field championships Wednesday didn’t go as planned.

The North Buncombe senior tore her track shoes off and sat on the artificial turf field at Reynolds High School, disappointed after missing on all her three attempts during the pole vault event.

“I put a lot of pressure on myself to get to that next level,” Alamo-Worley said. “But it’s always fun to try and get to a new height or set a personal-best.”
