ROME — An up-and-down season for North Gwinnett pole vaulter Kelsey Worthington ended well.

The South Carolina recruit repeated as the Class AAAAAAA state champion at Berry College with a vault of 12 feet, finishing her senior season on a high note.

“The season hasn’t been what I was hoping for, so just to be able to do all the changes in my technique that I wanted to do and come back and still be able to win it was a really good feeling,” the senior said. “I honestly didn’t know how it was going to go today, so to go in my favor was just a blessing.”

Coach Zach Luna and Worthington made some adjustments during the season to help the pole vaulter in the long run, but that led to some tough times this season. Most of the work was on speed and the swing, which messed with Worthington’s takeoff and caused issues for a couple of months.
