North Ridgeville’s Veronica Waugaman reaching new heights in pole vault

Pole vaulting is a kind of flying of sorts with athletes being released via torque off a bending pole. That thrill has propelled Veronica Waugaman to new record heights.

The North Ridgeville junior set a Lorain County record for girls pole vault May 14 at the Southwestern Conference meet with a mark of 12-1. Waugaman previously shared the county record at 12-0, first set by Avon Lake’s Christine Bohan (2013), which was tied in 2019 by Vermilion’s Macy Urig. Waugaman matched the record May 7, when she cleared 12-0 at the Vermilion Invitational.
