Derek DiAngelis had plenty of motivation heading into Friday’s PIAA-AAA pole vault finals.

Northern Lebanon’s senior vaulter struggled in the L-L League finals, failing to clear 12-0.

In the District 3 finals last week, DiAngelis soared 14-3, but settled for silver behind Hershey’sStephen Minto, who also cleared 14-3, but in fewer attempts.

That had DiAngelis fired up for Friday’s state finals, and he came through, clearing 14-6, soaring past L-L champ Diego Cruz from Lancaster Catholic and Minto, and capturing the bronze medal at Shippensburg University.

Q&A with Derek DiAngelis

Ryan Wilkes from Valley View won gold with a clear of 15-6, and Cal Sanford from Erie McDowell clinched silver with a 15-0.

DiAngelis was next with a 14-6; video of his bronze-medal-winning clear is above.
