He claimed silver in the 1960 summer Olympics in Rome. Ron Morris competed in the pole vault. He shared his Olympic story with KSEE24.

Morris first vaulted using bamboo and then transitioned into fiber glass poles. His highest vault was 16 feet six inches back in the 60’s. That’s far shy of the current world record at 20 feet set by a Ukranian. Morris says being on the podium at the very end was an awesome moment.

“All of a sudden there you are. The pride of being an American…it really gets to ya,” said Morris.

Morris is in Clovis for the North American pole vault championships.
