Olympic bar too high for Tori Pena

TORI PENA LEFT her pole vault dreams on the crash mat after a disappointing morning in London’s Olympic Stadium on Saturday.

Ireland’s first-ever female pole vaulter was in action on the second day of the track and field events but couldn’t find the performance to book a place in Monday’s medal final.

Pena failed three attempts at her opening height of 4.10m, well below her personal best of 4.50m which she set in March to qualify for her debut Olympics.

Born in California, the 24-year-old holds dual citizenship through her Derry grandmother. She made her Irish debut at the European Championships in 2010 after registering with Finn Valley AC in Donegal.
