Our forgotten Olympian: Logansport native medalled in 1904 Olympics

Well over a century ago, a native of Logansport was an Olympic medalist — but few remember, and even news coverage at the time was sparse.

While many from the area know about Greg Bell — the Logansport dentist from Terre Haute who won an Olympic gold medal in the long jump at the 1956 Games in Melbourne, Australia — many don’t realize that a Logansport High School grad, Louis Wilkins, won an Olympic bronze medal in the pole vault at the 1904 St. Louis Games.
