MERRILL — The longest standing track and field record at Lakeview High School has been broken.
The pole vault record, originally set in 1964 by Tom Amacker at the height of 13 feet, three inches, has been broken by senior Jerry Patzke.
Patzke had no issue clearing 13 feet, finished at 13-4 and was the lone vaulter left in Thursday’s Lost River Invitational.
Nearly the entire track meet took notice of Patzke’s stellar performance.
The following increase of height would be the Lakeview senior’s most stimulating jump.
He took his time, ran and pushed himself just high enough to clear 13-4 and earn the school record.
