SAN ANTONIO — Stephen F. Austin’s Demi Payne set a personal best in the pole vault Saturday, clearing 16 feet and 3/4 inches in a second-place finish indoors at the Millrose Games.
Nike’s Katerina Stefanidi and Payne both made the height in the meet held at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory, in New York.
Stefanidi finished first based on fewer misses.
Payne’s previous best in the pole vault came Feb. 6 in New Mexico when she soared over the bar at 16 feet.
A former state champion at New Braunfels High School, Payne is one of only a handful of female pole vaulters who have cleared 16 feet.
