POLE VAULT
WHEN: Saturday at 10 a.m.
THE FIELD: New Jersey will have four boys in the field of 19 vaulters. They are listed below in alphabetical order, followed by their school, grade and personal best.
• Jarrod Brovero, Delsea, Senior, 14-6
• Greg Fuerte, Paramus, Junior, 14-0
• Kyle Loveland, Moorestown, Senior, 14-6
• Jake Smith, West Essex, Senior, 14-0
JERSEY OUTLOOK: Last season, four competitors cleared 15 feet and that’s pretty consistent statistic when it comes to the vault at Franklin Field. Loveland and Brovero both cleared 14-6 at the Meet of Champions this winter and could be in the mix with tricky conditions expected for Saturday.
OF NOTE: New Jersey hasn’t won the pole vault at the Penn Relays since Andy Brethorst of Morris Knolls cleared 15-1 to finish first in 1990. When Bill Hartley of Southern won in 1976 he became the first vaulter in meet history to clear 16-0. Hartley’s 16-0 stood as the meet record until 1991.
