JERSEY 2015 organisers and athletics officials have announced that they intend to hold the first ever NatWest Island Games women’s pole vault competition — and the first men’s event in eight years — when the biannual sporting festival visits next summer.
Absent from every Games schedule since 2007, when just four male athletes entered the event in Rhodes, pole vault has always struggled to achieve regular competition and has failed to attract a minimum of four female competitors in each of the 15 previous meetings since the Island Games launched in the Isle of Man in 1985.
But with the recent refurbishment of the athletics track at FB Fields now complete there is hope that Jersey can live up to the hype of putting on the biggest and best games yet and provide visiting islanders with pole vaulting credentials the opportunity to take centre stage
