INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Two members of the Air Force pole vault team will compete at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships, the national office announced this evening (March 4) with the release of its championship field.
As members of track and field’s “Sweet 16” in the pole vault, All-American senior Cale Simmons will make his second appearance at the national meet, while sophomore Joey Uhle will make his first.
Simmons, who finished fifth at last year’s national championship meet, enters this year’s competition ranked seventh with an Academy-record clearance of 18’2″ (a mark tied for the fourth-best clearance in the NCAA this season). Uhle, the reigning Mountain West champion, is currently ranked 15th in the list of declared athletes, after clearing a career-best 17’9¾” during his victory at the conference championships. The 2013 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark. The men’s pole vault competition is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (CST), on Friday, March 8, at Randal Tyson Indoor Track on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
