Pole Vault Records Fall at Air Force Team Challenge

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Air power was on full display at the Cadet Field House this evening, as senior Kyle Pater and sophomore Kathryn Tomczak shattered the Academy records in the men’s and women’s pole vault. Pater cleared a NCAA-leading mark of 18’4½” to shatter the men’s record by two inches, while Tomczak jumped 13’11¾” to obliterate the women’s standard by more than five inches.

The pair easily won their respective pole vault events, as the Air Force track and field team wrapped up competition at its Team Challenge event against Grand Canyon, Long Beach State and Stephen F. Austin on Friday, Feb. 3.

Pater and Tomczak, who both debuted on the Mountain West’s all-time lists with their respective jumps (Pater: second; Tomczak: fifth) weren’t the only members of the Falcons’ vertical jump squad to impact the program’s all-time standings today, as sophomore Sam Hinegardner cleared a career-best height of 6’10¼” to tie for ninth in the program standings of the men’s high jump.
