Jewel Sumner’s Devin King took his Louisiana record-breaking season to the national scene. Broadway was a nice landing place.

It was only fitting, as the nation’s leading prep pole vaulter cleared 17 feet, 10¼ inches to break the national high school record in winning the New Balance National Indoors meet at The Armory.

King’s mark bettered the previous best of 17-9¼ set by Andrew Irwin of Mt. Ida, Ark., in 2011.

King went 17-8 to set a Louisiana state indoor mark and a Carl Maddox field house record last month.
