Australian pole vaulter Kurtis Marschall has tasted Commonwealth Games gold and now he wants to become the Olympic champion.

Marschall lept his way into Australian hearts on the Gold Coast last April and will kick-start his Tokyo 2020 Olympics campaign at the Canberra Track Classic on Monday.

The 21-year-old admits he wasn’t a junior track-and-field star so he decided to combine his skills into pole vaulting and the move paid dividends.

“I was kind of all right at all the events but never amazing at one thing and one day I tried pole vault and it was kind of my calling,”¬†Marschall said.
