Pole vaulters find comfort in making big leaps

DUBOIS — With his family right behind him screaming their heads off and cheering him on at the top of their lungs as he soared to high places, Heritage Hills freshman Grant Gogel picked a good day to have his best performance so far of his young career.

After reaching a new personal best height of 10 feet and 6 inches in the pole vault, the visibly excited freshman let out a subtle but noticeable ‘Yeah!’ with a little fist pump to go with it. While Gogel was obviously amped about his performance, one of the aspects of pole vaulting that gets him most psyched up is all of the moving parts that even make any of this possible.
