Pole vaulters from Redondo Union and Mira Costa ‘clearing’ the record books

It took around a century from the time the first pole vault competition was held in the Olympics to the time women competed in the sport. It was not until 1993 that high school girls first competed in California.

Two of the best vaulters in the state for the past three years are juniors Redondo Union’s Amari Turner and Mira Costa’s Brigitte Grau.

They were both gymnasts in their youth, but turned to pole vaulting in high school.
