Pole vaulters Hobbie, Jansky bring European style to UCM track

WARRENSBURG — Pittsburg, Kansas, is a long way from where Central Missouri freshman pole vaulter Vincent Hobbie started his vaulting career, but it’s where he solidified his place in Mule lore with a national title just three months into his UCM career.

The Stutensee, Germany-native became the second Mule to ever win the Indoor pole vault national championship, clearing 17’7” at the Division II National Meet, March 9.

“I was standing on the runway just like thinking of what I had to do through my run up process and everything,” Hobbie said. “I had a lot of pressure because two of the other guys made it on their first attempt before me, so I knew I had to make that bar to win.”
