Pole vaulting is the family business for this Sun Devil

PHOENIX- Arizona State University’s Garrett Starkey was born to pole vault. The senior has the sport running through his veins.

His dad, Dean Starkey, won the bronze medal at the 1997 World Championships. During his prime, he made vaulting 19 feet look easy. His stepmother, Jill Starkey, finished in fourth place at the USA National Championships in 1999.

The family runs the Arizona Pole Academy in Queen Creek, which they call the “family business.”
