His background in gymnastics helped Harris MacLean become a standout in the pole vault and now the Galena senior will get to compete in college.
MacLean was one of four Galena athletes to sign for college in a ceremony at the school on Thursday.
MacLean will be a preferred walk-on at Division I North Dakota. His best in the pole vault in 14-feet, 6 inches and he finished second in the state track and field meet earlier in May. He said if he can clear 15-feet in the pole vault, he could earn a scholarship at North Dakota. He will compete in a meet this weekend in Sacramento.
He looked at a few other schools, but said North Dakota has one of the best pole vault teams.
“I’m really excited. All the work has paid off,” MacLean said.
