PSU National Day Two Results | Day One Recap | JDL Day Two Results

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Junior Alyssa Palenchar put forth a record-setting pole vault performance Saturday while leading the Panthers on the final day of action at the Penn State National Invitational.

Palenchar broke her own school record with a vault of 3.72m (11-1.75m) to finish fourth in the strong field. Palenchar’s vault eclipsed the previous school record she shared with Jill Marois by .07m and set the top mark in the Big South so far this season.

Marois finished seventh with a mark of 3.47m (11-4.50) and junior Catelyn Griffin matched Marois with a 3.47 vault.

In the women’s 3000m run, freshman Kelly Hayes represented the Panthers with a 15th-place finish in 10:29.40. It marked the sixth fastest time in the Big South so far this season.

“The women’s vaulters at Penn State showed up today,” associate head coach Eric Dudley said. “After getting opening bar jitters out of the way – it took Alyssa until her 3rd attempt at opening height – Catelyn, Alyssa, and Jill settled in and took flight. Jill and Catelyn both ultimately cleared 3.47m and Alyssa went on to break the school record and set a new personal best of 3.72m. It’s funny, a lot of Alyssa’s best vault days start out really rough, with her in danger of not even making opening height. But she’s a gamer and gets it done. Her clearance at 3.72m was clean too!”
