Rechen Matches Pole Vault School Record, Women’s T&F Competes at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Ithaca College women’s track & field team competed Saturday at Moravian’s Coach P Invitational. The Bombers hit 15 ECAC qualifiers and had 29 top-10 finishes during the meet.

Alex Rechen was the runner-up in the pole vault with a clear of 3.50 meters. The clear matched the outdoor school record held by Kristen DeStefano set on May 1, 2010. Shannon Meehan joined Rechen in meeting the ECAC qualifier in the event with a fifth-place finish of 3.35 meters.

Emilia Scheemaker won the triple jump and finished third in the long to meet a pair of ECAC qualifiers. She had a mark of 11.68 meters in the triple and 5.37 meters in the long. Christine Benway finished fourth in the long with an ECAC-good mark of 5.31 meters, while Kristen Swanson placed 10th in the triple with a distance of 10.16 meters.

Benway raced to an ECAC finish of 15.66 in the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries before finishing seventh with a time of 16.14 in the finals.

Leigh Martino won the 400 hurdles in 1:05.12, an ECAC qualifier. Julia Jones placed seventh in 1:08.43 and Kassie Moore eighth in 1:08.77.

Harmony Graves placed second in the 200 dash with an ECAC-qualifying 25.84 finish.

Hannah Wright raced to a fourth-place ECAC finish of 2:19.87 in the 800 run. Emily Smith followed in sixth with a time of 2:21.58 and Anna Fay placed 10th clocking in at 2:22.87.

Both of Ithaca’s relays met the ECAC standards. The Bombers’ 4×400 relay of Eliza Dewart, Graves, Martino and Jones crossed the finish line second in 3:58.54. The 4×100 team comprised of Lizzi Dowling, Dewart, Alex Lewis and Sarah Werner placed fifth with a time of 49.39.

Ithaca had nine top-10 finishes in the throws. Brandy Smith placed third and Elaine Abdulky fourth in the discus, both earning bids to the ECAC Championships. Smith threw 37.87 meters and Abdulky 37.79 meters.

Abdulky was the first of four to place in the hammer. She had an ECAC-qualifying heave of 44.22 meters to place fourth. Smith was fifth with a toss of 40.55 meters, Kristina Stockburger sixth with a distance of 39.64 meters and Corrine Taylor seventh with a throw of 35.23 meters.

Taylor was the runner-up in the shot with a mark of 11.67 meters, an ECAC-good throw.Francesca Boylan placed fourth and Stockburger ninth with heaves of 11.03 and 10.33 meters, respectively.

Natalie Meyer cleared 1.57 meters in the high jump to place fifth.

Carly Graham, Carolyn Malone and Allison Bartkowiak earned top-10 finishes in the 1,500. Graham ran fifth in 4:50.65, Malone seventh in 5:01.83 and Bartkowiak eighth in 5:02.74.

The Bombers return to action on Tuesday, April 15 hosting the first of two Ithaca Tuesday Meets.
