Rees Nemeth vaults his way to Citizen Patriot boys track Athlete of the Year

HILLSADLE – Rees Nemeth had a 30-minute stretch June 3 he likely will never forget.

The senior from Hillsdale took first place at the Division 3 state finals in pole vault, finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and ran a leg on the runner-up 400 relay team – three accomplishments that helped him become the Jackson Citizen Patriot boys track Athlete of the Year.

Nemeth, who was named the most valuable hurdler at his team’s banquet, will spend his next four years pole-vaulting and throwing javelin at Siena Heights University.

“He’s worked very hard to become the athlete he’s become,” Hillsdale boys track coach Clay Schiman said. “It is really just his second year pole vaulting, so to be the state champion is phenomenal.”
