Reigning national champion Jenn Suhr finished in a share of fourth place after failing to clear 4.80 during the world championships in the pole vault competition Wednesday morning in Beijing, China.
Suhr, a Riga resident and 16-time national champion, was competing for her second IAAF World Championship. Suhr, who has been the top-ranked American pole vaulter since 2006, won her only world title in 2008 in Valencia, Spain.
The 2012 Olympic gold medalist advanced to the finals after clearing 4.55 meters on her second attempt during the qualifying round. She was one of 14 women competing for the title.
Suhr won the American outdoor title in June in Oregon after clearing 4.82 meters (15 feet, 9 3/4 inches).
Sandi Morris also came in fourth place.
