Robbinsville High’s Hunter sets vault mark

TOMS RIVER — Robbinsville High senior Craig Hunter vaulted his way to new heights Wednesday as he set an NJSIAA Central Jersey Group II sectional record.

Hunter – who posted a 14-6 vault to set the Central Group I sectional record last year – went 15-6, with a near-miss at 16-1 in the boys’ pole vault yesterday as he shattered the record of 13 feet that was shared by Jonathan Bartlett (Matawan) and Skylar Johnson (Point Pleasant Boro).

“I had jumped 16 feet a week and a half ago (in a meet), so I went into this meet feeling a lot more confident than usual,” Hunter said.

Hunter said he elected to go straight from 15-6 to 16-1 to save energy for his races later in the meet and that it “wasn’t a jump-a-PR-or-go-home kind of day.”
