Athletes across the country competed at the University of Oregon’s historic Hayward Field for a spot on Team USA last week. Fifth-year Robert’s Wesleyan University pole vaulter found herself on top. “I knew I was in, but at the same time, it doesn’t really set in and Rick grabbed me and was like you did it, you made the team, and it was like immediate tears. I couldn’t, I couldn’t control it. I just started crying,” King laughed.

King jumped 4.73 meters, a personal record, to bring her from eighth place to third. “On the back of the runaway I was like okay, you have one shot to make your dreams come true. Execute what you know how to do. And I came down and I did that. So that was really exciting,” she said.
