Rockford club track athletes compete at national Junior Olympics

Nine members of the Zero Gravity Track Club based in Rockford earned the opportunity to compete against some of the top Junior Olympic athletes in the country at the recent USA Track Federation national meet in Sacramento, California.

The club primarily designed to train pole vaulters by coach Paul Herda was opened to athletes in other events. They had to advance from the state meet in Lakeville to the Region meet in Fargo, North Dakota.

The national meet was at Sacramento State University where the temperature was at least 100 degrees every day of competition. There were two divisions for ages 15-16 and 17-18.

The 4×100 girls relay won both the state and region meets before placing 23rd at nationals. Molly Schultz could not attend and was replaced by Hannah Moe.

Aliyah Robran twisted an ankle a couple of days before the state meet but was able to help the team win the state title. The relay included Cassia Cady and Sara Byers.
