CHAPEL HILL — Tyler Samotis earned a first-place finish in the men’s pole vault to lead a strong showing for Gardner-Webb track and field at the Tar Heel Open on Saturday.

Samotis, a redshirt sophomore from Hendersonville, won in a bounce-back performance, recording a height of 4.85 meters. Fellow sophomore Tyler Marsengill cleared 4.30 meters, good for sixth.

Gardner-Webb freshman Elise Moffat cleared 3.20 meters in the women’s pole vault to come in eighth.

In the men’s high jump, freshman Seaver Wait placed 10th, topping 1.85 meters.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs return to action for the two-day JDL Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Winston-Salem.
