San Diego Pole Vault Coach has the locals mourning his loss

Suddenly, last Monday, Dedrick Girley (49 years Old) was attending pole vault practice at La Costa Canyon High School, when he collapsed with a blood clot and passed while traveling to the hospital.

This was a man that gave his heart and soul for his family, country, and the pole vault community. Did what he thought was the best for his athletes and the community at large.

One of the first coaches that we met down in San Diego was Dedrick, and we often visited his Friday night vault clinics and meets until we started Vaulter Club in Temecula at the time. We ran into Coach Dedrick and shared many laughs as we spoke about his daughter that we knew and admired. Last year was the last time that we spoke to Derick during the Triton Invitational. Dedrick you will be missed and this news saddens many of us. Rest in peace my friend and the Heavenly Father has you in his arms now! CTR

The family of Coach Dedrick Girley would like to invite you to attend a Memorial Service and Celebration of Life. Coach Dedrick had a profound impact on the community and we know he was loved dearly.
During these heartbreaking times, we want to encourage you to lean on each other. The family takes great comfort in hearing the incredible stories and memories that he touched hearts with. There will be a reception held after the servvice, where you are all invited to share the impact he has had on you individually.

WEDNESDAY March 9, 2022 From 4 PM – 6 PM
The Memorial will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1975 Chestnut Ave, Carlsbad, CA 92008
