Sarasota’s Janson falls short in pole vault

Lacy Janson’s hope for a run at an Olympic medal ended Saturday morning when the Cardinal Mooney High graduate missed her three attempts to clear the height of 4.50 meters (14-feet-9-inches) in the women’s pole vault competition.

Janson easily cleared heights of 4.25 and 4.40 (14-feet-5 ¼) at the 2012 Olympics before bowing out with three misses at 4.50. She was one of 38 athletes competing in two groups for 12 spots in Monday’s finals. Janson’s personal best outdoor mark is 15-1. T

he top three qualifiers were top American vaulter Jenn Suhr, Russia’s Yelena Isinbayeva and Cuba’s Yarisley Silva. Janson, 29, who pole vaulted collegiately at Florida State, was competing in her first Olympics.
