AUSTINTOWN — Geneva girls track and field coach Bobby McQuoid is no stranger to the state track and field meet and he has found a home near the pole vault pit in recent years.
McQuoid has sent a Geneva pole vaulter to the state meet every year since 2014.
Ally Thompson started the tradition and collected two top-three finishes before handing the torch to Deidra Marrison.
Marrison gathered three top-six finishes and was the state runner-up last year as a senior. Bri Aveni made her first trip to Columbus last year, becoming the third Eagle to compete there in a three-year span.
Freshman Gabbi Selman is looking to continue Geneva’s pole vaulting tradition.
Selman competed in her first-ever district meet last Friday. She did not only manage to maintain her poise during the biggest meet of her career to date, but she thrived.
Selman collected a PR vault of 10-00 and clinched a spot in Friday’s Division I regional meet.
