Sidney’s Garrison Hughes and Mike Herauf of Dickinson, N.D., finished in the top 10 of the Emerging Elite pole vault group at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor championships earlier this month in Greensboro, N.C.
Herauf placed fifth with a vault of 15 feet, 2 inches. Hughes vaulted 14-8 ½, good for ninth place. There were 30 competitors in their group.
Michigan’s Andrew Harrison won the Emerging Elite group with a height of 15-7. Chris Nielsen (Kansas City, Mo.) was the championship group winner, jumping 16-7.
