On Wednesday, February 26 at the Three Brothers Restaurant in Paulding Sidney Salinas signed her letters of intent to go pursue her education at the University of the Cumberlands.
Salinas has been in sports nearly her whole life and has excelled at Paulding High School, breaking several records. She has been in wrestling for 11 years now and this year she went to the Archbold Sectionals. In high school she has 80 Career wins. In her 2013-14 senior career she also has her best record of 29-14. Included in her record is 11 pins.
Wrestling is her favorite sport but she also loves track. She currently is a 5 times pole vault record holder and she has won the NWC conference twice.
Throughout the year Sidney also wrestles in a women’s USA league called “War of the Roses.” Several weeks back she was featured on Lima TV Station WLIO for her accomplishments.
Sidney says to others, “Don’t give up. Don’t quite on your dreams.” When she was young she had talked with a college wrestler who inspired her to continue on this path. She has done very well and is getting three scholarships including: Wrestling, Track and Academics. The scholarships she has earned will pay for nearly all of her post-secondary education.
Her parents are Rich and Beckie Bennett and they are excited for Sidney. She is very smart, making the high honor roll, and she loves Science and Anatomy. Salinas isn’t exactly sure what she wants to do for her career. She said maybe to work in the medical field or even be a wrestling coach.
Her parents and coaches are all very proud of her. She looks forward to soon participating in the spring sports now that wrestling has finished. This year she is planning on competing at state in the pole vault competition. Great Job Sidney!
