LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – A pair of Slippery Rock University track and field standouts were recognized Tuesday with the final Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors for the 2014-15 season.

Caleb Smithco took home the men’s weekly honor and Kaitlyn Clark earned the women’s accolade after the pair put forth PSAC leading performances last weekend at the Kent State Tune Up.

Smithco, a freshman from Hampton, Pa., shattered his own Slippery Rock record to win the triple jump at Kent State with an NCAA provisional leap of 15.23 meters (49′ 11.75″). That mark is the best in the PSAC this season and the fifth best recorded by any Division II athlete this year. It also shattered his own school record and previous personal best of 14.76 meters set at the beginning of this season.

Smithco, who also placed fourth in the long jump last weekend at Kent State, will enter the PSAC Championship meet this weekend as the No. 1 seed in the triple jump and the No. 6 seed in the long jump.

Clark, a junior from Shepherdstown, W.Va., earned the women’s honor after improving on her season-best in the pole vault. She cleared 3.68 meters (12′ 0.75″) to place fourth in the meet. The mark improved on her previous season best of 3.65 meters, is the best in the PSAC this season and the 20th best in the nation so far.

Clark was matched last weekend by freshman teammate Courtney McQuaide, who also cleared 3.68 meters to tie for the best mark in the PSAC so far this year. McQuaide placed slightly lower in the competition at Kent State based on missed attempts, and the PSAC office deemed that Clark’s performance should stand as the lone honoree for the week.

Both Clark and McQuaide will enter the PSAC Championships this weekend as the No. 1 seed in the pole vault.

Slippery Rock will be hoping to come home from the two-day conference championship meet at Edinboro with a pair of trophies this weekend. The Rock men will be gunning for a top two finish in the team standings, while The Rock women will be looking to repeat as team champions.

A complete preview and list of Rock entries for the PSAC Championships that will take place Saturday and Sunday will be available at www.RockAthletics.com Friday.
